Après Tennis

ABOUT THE COLLECTION

Après Tennis is a witty and whimsical collection to serve as a “how to guide” for post-match celebrations of an amateur tennis player.

These paintings serve as a reminder to celebrate, and raise a toast to, all things…the wins, the losses, the learning process, and even the celebration of just showing up…and a hope that we never take ourselves too serious.

INSPIRATION BEHIND THE COLLECTION

Why tennis? A year ago, I decided to try a new sport that I have been wanting to learn for a long time…tennis. I quickly realized there is way more to the sport than I ever realized, and I am still not very good at it, but I have fallen in love with the sport itself, and I have fallen in love with the journey of not being good at something, but still showing up to learn and improve. There are so many layers and depths to the sport of tennis…from the history and prestige to the fundamentals and techniques of how you play. It truly is a lifetime sport. And although I am still learning and improving, I remind myself to celebrate each and every victory, no matter how small. Hit a great serve? Let’s celebrate! Won a set? Awesome! Played terrible but showed up anyway? I’ll toast to that! This collection is a reminder to seek out and celebrate all things, in tennis and in life!

Why Veuve Clicquot Champagne bottles? I chose to paint Veuve Champagne not because of its current popularity, but because of its history. Veuve Clicquot champagne was created by a widow (Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin A.K.A Madame Clicquot) after many failed vintage attempts. In 1810, she created the first single vintage champagne and essentially created the champagne industry and was one of the first international businesswomen. She persevered through loss and failures to create a product that is still wildly popular today. And that deserves a toast!
